A 16-year-old who was arrested at Friday’s Midway High School football game for being armed with a Hi-Point .9 mm gun and a pocketful of drugs, saw his bond raised from $15,000 to $50,000 during his first court appearance Monday.

Tyrone Antione Joyner, 16, of 1229 Charles Newland Road, Dunn, was arrested Friday night, Oct. 23, after security officials at the football game spotted the weapon and subsequently discovered drugs in his possession.

In addition to the gun, Joyner, who is listed as a student at an out-of-county high school, was reportedly carrying eight Vicodin; six Xanax and 10 Darvocet pills. He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule III controlled substance; possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance; possession of a firearm on school grounds; possession of drug paraphernalia; trafficking opium; and carrying a concealed weapon.

Joyner was given a $15,000 bond by Magistrate C. Price and a trial date of Oct. 30; however, District Court Judge Jim Moore “modified” the bond Monday to $50,000 secured bond.

Why the bond was raised was not immediately known and calls to the District Attorney’s office were not returned by press time.

Details surrounding Joyner’s arrest are coming to light after officials noted Tuesday morning that four other men who were allegedly with Joyner were cited for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to officials from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted four men sitting in the Midway High School parking lot in the back of a pickup truck acting “suspicious” Friday night.

Reports show that when deputies approached the men, they said they were waiting for “Tyrone.” Noting the suspiciousness of their activity, deputies asked and were given consent for a search of the vehicle. During the search they discovered marijuana.

While the deputies were searching the pickup, Joyner reportedly walked back to the area, saw the deputies and made an “evasive” move to elude investigators.

Joyner was discovered minutes later, allegedly hiding behind a white SUV. Deputies immediately discovered the drugs and during their search noticed the Hi-Point .9 mm gun sitting atop one of the tires of the SUV, to which Joyner claimed possession and was immediately taken into custody.

The four men who claimed they were waiting for Joyner were given citations of simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and released. They were: Christopher Dean Parrish, 20, of 190 Bradley Lewis Lane, Godwin; Anthony Loving, 23, of 190 Bradley Lewis Lane, Godwin; Robert Allen Williams, 18, of 210 Covenant Road, Godwin; and Joseph Larry Edwards, III, 21, of 551 Green Path Road, Godwin.

According to investigators, more felony charges could be filed against Joyner as early as Wednesday.

I was gonna leave a post but everyone else pretty much took all my thunder. And you are right, Judge Moore is a good one. Anybody who has ever observed him on the bench will tell you, he is defintely pro-law. chuck on the other hand, is more apt to try and appeaze the females that come before him.

Thanks Judge Moore, $15,000 was a pathetic bond for someone with a loaded gun on school campus! I just hope other Judges that Joyner comes in contact keep the same mind set.
