Roseboro, Midway and Union middle schools faced off Thursday for the final game in the regular season. Both Midway and Roseboro were awarded wins yesterday.

The first two teams to meet on the court were the Raiders and Leopards, and even though Midway would harness a victory in both sets, Lakewood did not go down without a fight.

The first set was a neck-and-neck race between the two middle schools, however Midway would pull ahead winning 25-22.

In the second set, Midway’s Hannah Horne would take the Raiders up five points before the Leopards were even given a chance. Throughout the entire match, Horne would have six aces and one dig, head coach Tracy Wrench said.

As the game continued, Midway would take their 5-1 lead to a 9-2 advance under Ivey Parker’s serve rotation.

Roseboro would capture five points, but Midway continued to rule the board 11-7, and eventually would take the win 25-13.

“The girls played as a team on the court, and they did very well,” Wrench shared post game, adding that the girls were playing for breast cancer awareness.

As for leading players, Parker had six aces; Micheala Godwin had seven aces and two points made from net balls; Amber Poole had five aces; Cassidy Strickland had four aces; and Morgan Tew had three kills.

After facing a loss to Midway, Roseboro would face off with the Spartans in a three-set match.

The first set allowed Union to turn a 5-3 lead into a 10-5 lead quickly; however, the Leopards would close it up to a two-point game shortly after.

The game remained a two-point battle until Union pulled ahead for the win at 25-23.

The second set was neck-and-neck to start, but Roseboro would soon take an 8-4 lead over the Spartans.

Union was able to bring their score up to trail at 10-8 and would remain behind throughout the match. Roseboro eventually took the set 25-22, sending it into a tie-breaker set.

Roseboro would take an early lead out on Union, and continue to rallie ahead until taking the set with a win 25-13.
