Although it would be the Leopards who won the play-in game, Hobbton would capture the first win of the night.
It would be Hobbton’s Rayanne Eldridge who would take the Wildcats to a 6-1 lead early in the first set. Quickly following, Sarah Best brought the Hobbton team up to an 11-2 advance over the young Leopards.
Trailing significantly to a fifth-ranked Hobbton in the first set , the Leopards would attempt to put points on the board, however were unable to return the serves the Wildcats presented.
Under Eldridge’s second serve rotation, the Wildcats would advance to a 22-8 lead and Best would soon finish it out with 25 on the board.
After the teams switched sides, it would be the Leopards who would take an early lead, bringing the score up 9-2 under Samantha House’s rotation.
The Leopards would continue to move up on the board under Bianca Moore’s serve rotation, taking RSMS up to a 15-4 jump.
Although the Wildcats would put 9 points on the board in the second set, the Leopards would continue to dominate and eventually defeated the Wildcats 25-10, sending it into a tie-breaker set.
With a potential advancement to fourth place on the line, Hobbton came out strong in the third set, but was squared off with an equally defensive Roseboro, who were attempting to keep their fourth place rank.
The final set was a point-for-point game to start until the Leopards pulled ahead with a 10-6 lead under Daja Owens’ rotation. RSMS would hold their top position throughout the set.
Although Hobbton would bring their score up, Roseboro would soon take the game at 25 with Parker behind the line.
The volleyball tournament between Midway, Sampson and Union will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, at Midway Middle.
