“This was probably one of the most exciting games that I have participated in during my 28 years of coaching,” said Union’s coach Eddie Bass after the game. “Both teams played great; they both played really hard. It’s the type of game where you hate to have anyone lose. It came right down to the wire, but we were able to stop them in triple overtime. Roseboro played their hearts out; they just played an exceptional game. They are to be commended.”
According to Bass, a touchdown from Dawan Carr and extra point from Kenya Robinson would give the Spartans the lead Wednesday, but RSMS was able to tie it up 8-8 and send it into overtime.
During overtime, two touchdowns were scored off Union’s Desmond Faison and another off Carr. Faison, Carr would also add extra points two out of the three times.
Bass also recognized Leonel Carbajal with nine tackles; Hagan Thornton with seven; and Azay Twitty and Robinson, both with five tackles.
“They played outstanding defensively. Ryan Hall also came in and contributed to the team on defense,” Bass revealed.
The Spartans will play Midway Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. at Clinton High School.
“It’s good to be back there,” Bass concluded.
