Investigators with the Clinton Police Department are looking for a man they are calling “suspicious” after he allegedly attempted to pick up a 14-year-old student walking home from Clinton High School Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, the teenager was on Indiantown Road, around 3:10 p.m., when a man in a blue vehicle approached the student, rolled down his window and asked if she needed a ride.

The student, who was not injured in the incident, allegedly ignored the man, and he drove away down Indiantown Road.

The teenager told her family when she got home and her mother, in turn, alerted law enforcement.

Investigators are looking for the vehicle and the suspect allegedly involved in the incident.

Since the incident lasted only seconds, a description of the man was not made clear on the report. He was described as only a “white male in a blue vehicle.”

Police officials said Friday morning that the incident is “rare” thanks to security patrols around the school and the presence of SROs (School Resource Officers). However, they are asking for help in the investigation, especially if anyone may have seen the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the incident.

If you have any information call the Clinton Police Department at 592-3105.

WOW! He asked her if she needed a ride. Anything else? Any lewd references? Did he attempt to grab her? Did he threaten her?

The way I see it he asked, she said no and he drove on. Is there a crime here or just some girl crying for attention?

Sorry folks there will be no CEP in the near future as we now have Coharie Farms not paying their $180,000 in taxes and our BOE needs a new technology server/staff development center that's regionally recognized. Parents of CEP students you are advised to strap hand sanitizer to your children's belt(yes they should have one if they are abiding by the new dress code)so they can use to kill the ecoli germs after returning from their bathroom break at the port-a-potties. After all sanitation is over rated in our swine flu times.

To anonymous. If the school system doen't allow any means of transpo, what is a child to do. Everyone isn't a stay @ home mom or dad. It should be absolutely mandatory for a child to have a ride home, aka school buses. Seems county schools have no problem. Geez, get into the 21st century. Some schools I know of doesn't allow students to walk from one school to the other if they are next door to each other because of the danger.

And SIStrump, you're probably right on the merging. You should say when C.E.P. gets built(:)

LOL @ noneyo. It should be a parent's decision. As you can see in this case, some parents aren't capable of making an intelligent decision and with our litigious society where everyone gets to blame someone else it becomes as issue of liability for the city school system. So therefore, I can't believe that they haven't protected themselves by not allowing students to walk home.

Why should it be up to the school system to tell a child not to walk home? Whatever happened to parents making good decisions for their children? This is typical of our culture and a large portion of most of the troubles we are facing. Always point the finger somewhere else; always blame or rely on a government entity; never take personal or familial responsibility.

I agree that it is dangerous...but that should be a matter between parents and children, not the school system.

I agree xvkfb. No student should be walking along a roadside to get home. Not riding the bus shouldn't be an option. It's dangerous to have students walking on roads where there's no sidewalk. I can't believe the city schools allow that. And as far as the schools merging....LOL that will happen when hell freezes over because it just makes too much sense to have only one school system.

I'm apt to go alone with everyone. But my problem is that the city schools allow children to walk home anyway. One thing I give county credit for is, if the child lives 1/4 mile from the school, he or she has to be on a bus or someone has to pick them up. So why if you go down Elizabeth St. and Boykin Bridge road do you see so many kids walking when school is out? It's dangerous out there for them to be walking on the side of the road and I'm not talking about someone picking them up, I'm talking about getting hit by a car or truck. Maybe this will end when and I say when the county and city schools merge into one

What business did this girl have walking home from CHS? Were the buses not in operation this day? Was mom without a car? I mean, mom WAS at home... doesn't it say that when she arrived home, she told mom of the event?

I'm with noneyobiz- sounds to me like this 14 year old wants some attention...

I agree noneyo. Would it have been too much trouble for her to say, "Thank you for the offer but I'm fine" instead of ignoring someone who offered to give you a ride. He may have just been trying to be nice. After all he didn't try to grab her and pull her into the car. Sounds like a case of paranoia to me. If she's that scared of strangers maybe she should ride the bus or have her parents pick her up from school.

Is this really a newsworthy story? I would probally stopped if I saw a young girl walking beside the road and wanted to know if anything was wrong? I dont think this man was a threat?
