Sampson County Sheriff’s officers are investigating what they deemed at presstime Wednesday night to be a homicide in the Harrells area.
According to Capt. Eric Pope, a report of a “dead body” located at a home on Castle Lane in Harrells was called in Wednesday afternoon.
“When detectives arrived on scene, they noticed the deceased body of a male,” he said. “The house didn’t have a number (since it is a newly built home).”
It was not clear whether the body was located inside or outside of the home.
Pope said that detectives were still processing the scene, as well as waiting on additional search warrants for the home, as of 5:10 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
“They have to wait for the medical examiner as well,” Pope added. “Right now, the case is being treated as a homicide until it is deemed otherwise.”
Pope said that he could not share any more information at press time since the investigation was still in its infancy.
