Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s office have identified the victim in a shooting that took place Wednesday, Nov. 11, around 2:20 p.m. on Castle Lane in Harrells.

Deputies, responding to a shots fired call, found the body of Christopher Perice Owens, 23, of Garland, on the floor of a double-wide trailer. The caller advised that they heard multiple gunshots from the residence next to them.

When deputies arrived at the scene, reports show, they saw the front door of the double-wide trailer partially opened. After several attempts to get the occupant(s) to come out, the deputies entered the home.

Owens’ body, which reportedly had signs of “obvious trauma,” was located on the living room floor of the mobile home. Deputies also observed multiple bullet holes in the walls of the residence. No one else was found.

While investigators were processing the crime scene on Castle Road, Evans Cromartie, 24, of Harrells, went to the Sheriff’s Office in Clinton in regards to the Castle Lane shooting.

Cromartie had a gunshot wound to his shoulder area and was transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officials said that neither Owens nor Cromartie were residents of the Castle Lane mobile home. Currently, investigators are conducting interviews with potential witnesses and processing physical evidence to determine what transpired at that location.

Investigators are awaiting the final autopsy results; an investigation is still on-going and no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information concerning the events on Castle Lane is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (910) 592-4141.

Well, we see where his intelligence came from. You know there is such a thing called spelling/grammar check on a computer. I'm 99% sure that program has come standard with a computer since the introduction of Windows 98.

Well, happygolucky, everbody has a story, and unfortunately, your cousin had one, too. It's just another case of a person or persons( like your cousin) doing something shouldn't have been doing in the first place. If your cousin wasn't trying to be like Marshall Dillion on Gunsmoke, he wouldn't be room temperature now. Sorry, I have no pity for you. Stop blaming people for your cousin's stupidity. If he was dealing drugs or some other shady stuff, why don't you say so.

I can hardly wait to see the details of this story. Neither one of these men lived there, so what were they doing there? Happygolucky since you seem to have so many details, why don't you enlighten us. Rarely is a shooting random. It usually has a hidden agenda...so what was it here?

You know what you are a pityful individual. The guy that got killed which was my COUSIN was a very nice, respectful, and mannerful guy. So for you to say that was very dumb on your part. He had just gotten there and hadn't been there for 30 minutes when the guy killed him. AND IT WASNT A SHOOT OUT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE GUN POWDER RESIDUE ON HIS HANDS.

Sounds like a shoot out at the Harrells Corral! I guess the lawnmower pull didn't turn out quite like these two wanted and they decided to settle it with guns a blazing!
