Darius Newton, 33, of 419 Scronce Road, Garland, was arrested and charged with the two felonies Tuesday evening and placed under a $75,000 unsecured bond by Magistrate K. Ellis.
Newton was released the same day. Newton was scheduled to appear in court Friday, however, a report on the outcome of the case was not available before court ended on Friday.
According to officials with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Nov. 1 at an unknown residence in Garland where Newton allegedly beat up a 24-year-old male victim and took his wallet — the weapon was unknown by investigators.
The victim refused to report the incident, and his father, subsequently, called authorities.
After a complete investigation, Newton was the only suspect in the alleged crime.
According to the North Carolina Court System, Newton has two additional court dates in the next few months — on Dec. 11 he will answer two driving infractions (failure to wear a seat belt and driving left of center); and on Jan. 21 Newton will be in a Sampson County court to face a DWI and commercial DWI charges.
