Edna G. McPhail, 74

SALEMBURG — Mrs. Edna G. McPhail, 74, of 1368 McPhail Road, died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at her home.

Service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen West officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McPhail was born on April 23, 1935 in Sampson County to the late Blackman and Eva Owens Hollingsworth, Sr. She is preceded in death by:  her husband, Payton McPhail; and one brother, Blackman Hollingsworth, Jr. She worked as a cosmetologist and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Joy McPhail of Salemburg; one son, Danny McPhail and wife Kim, of Salemburg; one sister, Dixie Williams of Salemburg; two brothers, Bruce Hollingsworth of Hampstead, and Glenn Hollingsworth of Wilmington; two grandsons, Jared McPhail, and Alex McPhail; and three special friends and caregivers, Brenda Silva, Yvonne Hodges, and Lashonda Rodriguez.

The family received friends on Saturday evening, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.. at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1206 Southwest Blvd., Clinton, N.C.  28328.

Frances E. Dail, 75

MAGNOLIA — Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Ezzell Dail, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. She was born April 27, 1934 in Duplin County to the late Curtis and Lidya Hargrove Ezzell.

The funeral was held 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 at Community Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, Raeford Street, Fayetteville, N.C.

Visitation may be done at the home at 2894 S. Hwy. 117, Magnolia.

 Thomas R. Sessoms, 44

ROSEBORO — Mr. Thomas Raeford Sessoms, 44, of 315 Josh Sessoms Road, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral services will be held 3 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School Gymnasium with the Rev. Jeff Bartlett and the Rev. Jesse Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Sessoms-Peterson Cemetery.

Mr. Sessoms was a native of Sampson County, the son of the late Abner R. and Annie J. Brock Sessoms. He was a teacher with the Sampson County Schools for 19 years and at the time of his illness was employed at Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School.

He is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Sessoms, of Roseboro and Vonita Sessoms, of Goldsboro; niece, Connie Duke, of Abilene, Texas; and many special friends and co-workers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday night, Nov. 21, from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School Gymnasium.

Raymond A. “Sam” Pollock, 86

CLINTON — Mr. Raymond Allen “Sam” Pollock, 86, of 1809 Indian Town Road, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Rowan Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. N. Ray Phillips officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Clinton Cemetery.

Sam, a native of Clinton, was born in 1922 to the late Charles Brewster Pollock and Lillie Mae Crumpler Pollock. He retired from the maintenance department of the Sampson County Board of Education after 37 years of service and then was a licensed plumber operating a plumbing repair service. He was a Private 1st Class World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Clinton VFW, the American Legion, and the Sampson County Veterans Council. He was an avid fisherman, loved to watch western movies and also to attend Clinton High School Friday night football games. Sam and his circle of friends didn’t miss any games for a number of years. He attended school through the eighth grade and due to a special program of the Veterans Service was awarded a diploma from Clinton High School in 2001. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra and Katherine; three brothers, James, Charles, and Leroy Pollock, and a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Ann Wilkerson.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Celestine Darden Pollock of the home; a son, Kenneth Allen Pollock and wife Peggy; a daughter, Patricia Ellen Keller and husband John; a sister, Betty Cruise and husband Fred of Fairfield Bay, Ariz.; a brother, Charvis F. “Snook” Pollock and wife Iree of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren, Graham Wilkerson and wife Charlotte; Amy Leggett and husband Sean, Les Spell and wife Melanie, Norma Clifton and husband Matthew; great-grandchildren, Allen Wilkerson, Matthew Wilkerson, Caid Leggett, Ella Leggett, and Amelia Spell; several nieces and nephews with special thanks to Ann Pollock Harris and Chuck Pollock and wife Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

GODWIN — Mr. Mitchell Earl Tanner, 50, of 6223 Fayetteville Hwy., died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn.

STEDMAN — Mr. Earl Wade Hair, 58, of 6283 Hwy. 210 S., died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville.
