Bobbie Ray Pratt, 34, of 1845 Laurel Lake Road, Salemburg, was charged with two counts of assault by pointing a gun and one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Pratt got into an argument with a 37-year-old Salemburg man Saturday around 2:30 p.m. after the man accused Pratt of driving around intoxicated in the roadway with children around.
When the man approached Pratt, he allegedly pulled out a 9 mm Luger and pointed it at the man and a 14-year-old juvenile. No one was injured in the incident.
The 37-year-old man immediately notified deputies, and when Pratt was questioned, he denied the incident ever took place. What deputies did find was the weapon in question, along with a 12-gauge shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18 inches, as well as a pistol grip, all reportedly in Pratt’s vehicle. He was immediately taken into custody.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Pratt has a previous conviction of assault with intent to inflict serious injury from January 1994.
Pratt was given a $4,500 bond and will have two separate trial dates for the charges. On Dec. 11 he will answer the possession of a weapon of mass destruction charge, a felony; and on Dec. 16, he will answer the two counts of assault by pointing a gun charges, a misdemeanor.
