Roseboro man served with host of charges linked to bad checks

A Roseboro man was arrested on a host of charges in two separate incidents by Sampson County Sheriff’s investigators.

James Laird, 20, of 720 Pine Forest Road, Roseboro, was charged with forgery of instrument; uttering a forged instrument; and obtaining property by false pretense; misdemeanor larceny; and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods on Thursday, Nov. 19.

Laird was placed under aa $10,000 secured bond, and a trial date Dec. 11 ws set by Magistrate K. Ellis.

The next day, Friday, Nov. 20, Laird was charged with forgery of instrument; uttering a forged instrument; and obtaining property by false pretense and given an additional $7,500 secured bond. Another trial date of Dec. 11 was set by Magistrate A. Jackson.

According to officials at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the incidents were from warrants taken out on Laird on Nov. 19. The charges stem from an incident at Altman’s Grocery Barn and Grill in Godwin.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Laird has been previously convicted of larceny (December 2006); and possession of a scheduled VI controlled substance (December 2006).
