“I thought we played excellent tonight; defensively we held them to 27 points,” said head coach Brian Wallum.
Despite the victory, Wallum commented that the Raiders still have much work to do before stepping into conference play.
By the end of the first quarter, Princeton had taken an 8-4 lead over the Raiders, however, the scant lead was nothing Midway could not overcome.
During the second quarter, the Raiders would be down 13-7, but with Candace Fogg drilling two of her free-throw shots, followed by another two from Amber Peterson and one other free-throw from Fogg, Midway took it to a 1-point game at 13-12, Princeton’s lead.
After Peterson was taken down in the paint, she was awarded two shots, which she nailed, putting Midway ahead 14-13.
Princeton would rally back and tie it up seconds away from the half-time buzzer, but with ticks left Midway would secure a half-time lead of 16-14.
Immediately into the third quarter, freshman Jada Cannady would carry the ball down the court on a break-away and swish one in for an 18-14 lead.
Consecutive points followed Cannady’s bucket and put the Raiders up 28-21 going into the fourth quarter.
Princeton would try to reclaim the lead, but the Raiders continued to dominate, taking the game 38-27.
Leading players for Midway were Cannady with four points; Morgan Warren two rebounds and eight points; Kacey Wrench five steals and four points; Fogg four steals and nine points; Harley McLamb three steals and two rebounds; Peterson 10 rebounds and nine points; and Tess Williams with six rebounds.
