Christmas is the time for giving and the time for caring, so this year instead of exchanging presents at the Christmas party, we are going to all pick one needy child and help provide Christmas for them. No child should have to go through Christmas without presents and the more fortunate should spread their blessings to other families.
I remember when I was a child my father was working two jobs on Christmas day just to make sure his children had presents to open. Not everyone can be as fortunate and not everyone can give their children what they deserve.
There are so many different organizations and groups that use our help, and we could choose a child to give Christmas to; it is really simple to bring these kids joy.
Christmas is one of the most important holidays to children, and not just because Santa comes down the chimney. It’s also because they have so much hope. They hope for presents, they hope for good tidings, they hope for just about anything that can make them smile, feel secure and loved.. So that’s why it is important to at least attempt to live up to the impossible standards of a child’s creative mind.
So if everyone would just adopt one child, or if every family would adopt another family, then we can make this Christmas good for everyone and not just the fortunate.
By writing this column my one hope is to inspire at least one other person to adopt a family for Christmas, and maybe that family will inspire more.
My mom always used to say to me “be the change you want to see.” It’s something we should all think about.
