Johnathan Conlanges Boykin, 25, of 2072 Claudes Drag Road, Roseboro, was taken into custody for fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle; resisting a public officer and driving with his license revoked in an incident dating back to Dec. 4.
According to Sheriff’s Corp. Patrick Dunn, Boykin showed up for a court date Monday stemming from a previous charge of driving with a license revoked and no insurance in an incident that took place in late September. Dunn said that in that incident, he pulled Boykin’s motorcycle over during a routine traffic stop in Roseboro.
Dunn said that the Dec. 4 incident also took place in Roseboro.
“(While on patrol), I recognized Mr. Boykin as driving in a vehicle with his license revoked,” Dunn said. “I got behind him, hit the lights (to pull him over) and he took off.”
Although Boykin got away that night, Dunn immediately took out warrants for his arrest.
“We have been trying to get the papers served on him since then,” Dunn said. “We knew he had a court date Monday (for the September incident), and he came in the back way to the courthouse. He sat in the far back trying not to be noticed, but I recognized him right away.”
Dunn said the suspect was arrested without incident.
Boykin was immediately taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond and another trial date on Jan.18.
According to reports from the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Boykin has a list of convictions dating back to June 2001.
Boykin has been previously convicted of possession of a schedule VI controlled substance; damage to property and assault on an officer/state employee; driving while intoxicated; simple assault/affray; malicious conduct by a prisoner; will/want injury to real property; driving while intoxicated level 2 and resisting officer; and speeding to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and receiving a stolen vehicle.
