The Clinton grapplers traveled to Wayne County for a return match against Spring Creek High School. The two had met early in the season during a Tri-Duals Match held at Clinton High School.

The Horses won the match and the Gators were looking to return the favor, but it was not to be. The Horses already had the odds stacked against them when they arrived to find out that the match was scheduled for an hour earlier and that we were running late. Given 15 minutes to weigh-in, get dressed and warm up the Horses took it all in.

Zach Railey (103) started things off by coming back from being down nine points into the 2nd round and reversing his opponent into a pin for Clinton’s first win of the match. A loss by Richard Uribe (112) evened things up.

A win by Ted Rives (119), Carlos Polanco (130) and losses by Pablo Meza (125) and Cody Irving (135) kept things even to this point. The Horses then went on a wild run that was not going to be stopped. Quindale Faulkner (140), Darren Thomas (145), Michael Graham (152), AJ Negron (160), Chris Peterson (171), Chris Guitierrez (189), Greg Daughtry (215) and Dominic Melvin (HVY).

Pins were recorded by Faulkner, Thomas, Graham, Peterson and Guitierrez.

The Dark Horses (6-4), have never been in this situation before but they are enjoying every minute of it. Next up for the Horses will be the Panthers of East Duplin, Friday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. at East Duplin.

Clinton’s head coach Frank Quinata submitted this article to the Independent.
