Cory Antoine Kirkland, 25, of 203 E. Carter St., Clinton, has been charged with burglary and robbery in connection with the home invasion on June 16. He also stands charged with simple physical assault on an officer and resisting arrest after a scuffle with Clinton police officers who took him into custody Saturday.
The felony robbery charges against Kirkland stem from an incident reported at a neighboring home, 314 E. Carter St., on June 16. There were six victims in that incident, including Jaime Rey Moso Vasquez, 19, Moises Reynoso, 15, Santos Reynoso, 31, Armando Ramos, 27, Christina Domingo, 27, and Irma Perez, 20.
There were just minor injuries reported as a result of the incident, in which two cell phones, valued at $100 each, and $3,200 in cash was stolen.
Kirkland was placed under $75,000 secured bond for the robbery and burglary charges. He received an additional $20,000 bond for the assault and resisting arrest charges.
According to reports, Clinton police officers attempted to place Kirkland under arrest for the outstanding warrants in the area of East Carter Street. Kirkland reportedly resisted arrest and fled the scene, grabbing and shoving one officer in the process.
There were no major injuries reported and Kirkland was subsequently taken into custody. He was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $95,000 total bond.
