R’boro man receives drug, assault charges after stop

A Roseboro man has been charged with felony drug and assault offenses after attempting to elude police during a traffic stop Monday.

Jason Kentay Smith, 20, of 455 Pink Lane, Roseboro, has been charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance on jail premises and simple possession of marijuana. He also received charges of assault on a government official and resisting a public officer.

Smith was placed under $33,500 secured bond for the charges.

According to reports, Clinton police conducted a routine traffic stop on a 1997 Cadillac Coupe being driven by Smith on Shields Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday. Smith reportedly resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

During Smith’s arrest, there was 33.3 grams of marijuana seized, reports state.
