Sampson Community College has already trained three students who have completed the 12 in 6 JobsNOW Program of Study. Annette Faircloth completed the carpentry trade program of study and students Vicky O'Brien and Danny Boykin completed the truck driver program of study.
In addition, each of the recipients earned silver Career Readiness Certificate and completed 40 Hour Employability Skills coursework. The CRC is a portable credential to be used when seeking employment that proves skill levels in applied mathematics, reading for information and locating information.
Kate Brown, director of Customized Training, notes that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds have already touched the lives of many Sampson County residents.
Brown states, “With rising unemployment rates, a greater number of workers must be retrained to find new employment opportunities. Three of our students have completed their Program of Study within the 6 months and are ready to re-enter the workforce. It is a privilege to have been given the opportunity at Sampson Community College to be an integral partner in the training initiative.”
Sampson Community College has developed a collaborative partnership with the Mid-Carolina Workforce Development Board and Sampson County Office of Employment and Security Commission/JobLink Center to develop the local 12 in 6 JobsNOW Initiative.
