Its been on the news over the last week or so about “relief for Haiti.” This country has been hit by a major earthquake and is in need of physical and spiritual things. At this time its important to meet the needs of these people. This story reminds us that giving is from the heart.
Jesus told his disciples that this poor woman had given more than those who had an abundance to give. As I have watched over the last week, this country y that we live in called the United States of America has truly stepped up. Money is coming in from all walks of life and that is great. I must ask the question are people doing it and wanting anything in return? Are the people giving from their hearts and saying “These people (Haitians) are created in the image of God, so I am doing it because I love God and that’s it.”
During this time of giving, people can pout our so much, and then write these things off on their taxes. Oh yes people do these things and yes they gave, but was it sincerely from the heart?
Jesus looks beyond your wallet, your job, your status, your donations although these things are OK to have, but he searches the hearts of men and women. Can you give from the kindness of your heart and not dare want anything in return?
If you are unable to give money to the relief fund, (the real ones), then you and I are called to bring the spiritual needs to the people. Jesus said, “men ought always to pray and not to faint.” So let us pray that God’s grace through the help of people being seen during this tough time for Haiti. Let us have a clean and pure heart when we ask the Lord to help those who are in physical and spiritual need. This is the time that the gospel stands up and out, and let the world know that Jesus cares, inspite of.
Saints let us agree to give with a sincere heart, whether it be to Haiti or someone else somewhere else. God knows every thought and motive behind everything and I mean everything that you and I do.
Prayer: Lord, Search us out today to see if our hearts are in the right place. If not forgive us and help us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
