A Godwin man was charged with running a stop sign and driving without a license after colliding with Dunn Mayor Oscar Harris and his wife, Jean, Sunday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., sending six people to two separate hospitals.

According to reports from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Joel Santiago, 22, of 5891 Fayetteville Highway, Godwin, was traveling north on Autry Mill Road, near Falcon, when he ran the stop sign and collided with Harris’s 2006 Cadillac.

Santiago, who was traveling in a 1995 Ford SUV, ran through the stop sign at 35 mph, hitting Harris, 71, of Merry Street, Dunn, who was traveling at approximately 45 mph going west on U.S. Highway 13, and pushing both cars into a ditch.

Reports state that as a result of the crash, two of Santiago’s three passengers were thrown from the vehicle. Michelle Wolfe, 21, of Harnett Dunn Highway, Dunn, and her son, Conner Wolfe, 3, both suffered cuts and bruises as a result. Neither was wearing a seat belt at the time.

Doris Wolfe, 64, of Wrench Road, Godwin, was also in Santiago’s vehicle at the time of the incident.

Everyone in the vehicle was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, suffering from minor injuries.

Wolfe and his wife, whose vehicle had an estimated $20,000 in damage, were taken to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn.

All were treated and released with minor injuries.

According to officials at the Highway Patrol, no further charges are expected against Santiago.

Well, I'm shocked. It wasn't an elderly person who cause an accident this time. I guess Joel's passengers learned a valuable lesson while they were flying through the air. "Click it or ticket".
