An 18-year-old Hobbton High School student was arrested Thursday at school after investigators linked him to a breaking and entering that occurred in Newton Grove on Jan. 24.
According to officials with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Ricky Herring Jr. 18, of 2854 Hobbton Highway, Clinton, was charged with breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; and possession of stolen goods.
Herring was taken into custody at the high school at 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
On Jan. 24, officers were called to a residence on Keener Road. Officials said that when the homeowners returned to their house on Sunday evening, they noticed items missing. Items reported missing were a digital camera, a television, cell phones and miscellaneous electronic equipment.
After a through investigation, Herring was allegedly tied to the crime.
He was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, charged and given a $10,000 bond. His court daate is Feb. 5.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Herring has no previous convictions.
