A 27-year-old Clinton man was arrested and charged in connection with the larceny of thousands of dollars in farm equipment that belonged to Murphy Brown, LLC, of Rose Hill.

Thomas Jeffery Long, II, of 3540 Turkey Hwy., Clinton, was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods after investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office reportedly caught him trying to sell the items at a local salvage yard.

According to reports, on Jan. 28, 10 hog panels, four metal pipes, and eight metal lockers were taken from a farm located on Pine Ridge Road.

A day later, Long was allegedly located at Sampson Salvage trying to sell the items for scrap metal and was arrested on the scene.

Long was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, placed under a $15,000 bond and given a trial date of Feb. 15.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Long has a history of convictions dating back to May 1999, including three felonies and nine misdemeanors.

Sometimes people find it easier to just take from other hard working people than to be honest,,and to think, this man has small children that live with him,,,what an influence

With all the effort Thomas put into stealing this equipment, you'd think it would be easier if he would just try to find an honest paying job. Hmmm, I bet Thomas has been accused of a lot of things in his life, but being smart is not one of them.
