After trouncing Union 49-5, Midway’s boys’ team heads into the Roundup championship poised for a perfect season, with an exclamation point being a desired win over Sampson in tonight’s championship game.
“Our goal is to go out and win,” said Midway’s head coach Mike Buchanan. “We just have to be ready to battle ... and its’ going to be a battle.”
To get tonight’s final, the Raiders had to first take cross-county rival Union for a ride. The coach said by keying in on a couple of the Spartans’ key players, Midway was able to hold them to only five points.
Brandon Lovette and Cullen Cottle would contribute 2 points and 3 points, respectively, for Union.
Midway was led by Justin Thompson with 3 points; Taylor Calcutt with 5 points; Raheem Thomas with 10 points; Tyler Pope with 16 points; Daquan Johnson with 2 points; Mike Hall with 3 points; Jordan Tyndall with 2 points; Luke Daniels with 4 points; Andre Sankey with 2 points; and Zach Carlton with 2 points.
