Shanai McKoy and Courtney Pearsall took the lady Dark Horses to a victory Tuesday after registering 13 points and 12 points, respectively. Clinton’s girls’ team would defeat South Lenior 53-42.
“We came out a little slow,” admitted head coach Chris Owens. “We weren’t focused, but I think, and by not placing blame, it was the Pink Zone.”
Although the ladies hit a slump in the second quarter, allowing the Blue Devils to creep in from behind, the Dark Horses landed on top at the half 19-17.
“Once we settled down and the distraction was gone, we started to take care of business,” Owens explained.
After hitting a hot streak in the third quarter, the lady Dark Horses registered 25 additional points on the board while holding South Lenior to a mere 12 points.
The Blue Devils rallied in the fourth, but Clinton would hold the lead at the buzzer.
“I am pretty pleased with how we did from the line as well. We were about 60 or 70 percent,” Owens added.
Leaders for Clinton were Mildred Fisher with 8 points; Mariah Morrisey with 6 points; Shaniece Twitty with 8 points; and both Qua’Shaun Jacobs and Shamika Smith recorded 2 points.
