Sampson County Sheriff’s officers are investigating two suspicious fires that took place last Friday in the northern end of the county.
According to reports, the first fire took place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Page Road in Godwin. The blaze burned a singlewide trailer and close to five acres of property — there was no damage estimate available.
The second fire took place at 11 p.m. Friday at Calico Lane in Autryville. That fire also claimed a singlewide trailer. The trailer was valued at $3,000.
There were no injuries reported at either location. The trailers were not occupied at the time of the fires.
“The fires are not related,” Capt. Eric Pope said Monday. “There is no connection between the two, other than they are in the north end of the county.”
Pope added that the fires are also not related to the recent Howard Road arsons that put Durwood Bradley Horne, age 42, of 450 Howard Road, Autryville, behind bars earlier this month.
“Both fires are still being investigated,” Pope said.
