Board chairman Reginald Kenan said that the board is currently awaiting a report from the representative from N.C. School Board Association on the information gathered from the survey conducted by them asking for input from the community, parents and schools staffs regarding what their requirements and wants would be in the new superintendent.
Kenan shared that Allison Schafer, from the state school board association, would be present at the next board meeting slated for Tuesday, March 2, to share the findings from the survey that had been conducted.
“We are taking the time to find the exact person we need to help lead us in serving Duplin County’s children in the best was possible,” said Kenan.
According to Schafer’s comments at the board meeting on Jan. 5, the county board has adequate time to conduct the search prior to the vacancy occurrence. She stated that by making the decision so far in advance the board had afforded itself additional time in which it could conduct its search in a timely manner without having to make any hasty decisions.
Kenan also shared that the school board would not even be looking at any application prior to the meeting with Schafer in March and the discussion of the survey results.
“I feel confident that we will be able to find the right person for the job and have them in place by July 1,” concluded Kenan.
