A 16-year-old Autryville resident has been arrested on a host of sexual offenses that involved a 5-year-old child.
Justin Michael Smith, 16, of 7061 Yellowskin Road, Autryville, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon and charged with first degree sex offense on a child; crime against nature; and taking indecent liberties with a child.
According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation on Smith began when a call came into the department back on Dec. 29, 2009. According to officials, Smith allegedly touched a 5-year-old female in an “inappropriate sexual manner” in an incident that took place just outside of Autryville in August 2009.
Through detailed investigation and interviews, investigators determined that Smith was responsible for the assault. He was arrested in school Thursday.
Smith was placed under a $100,000 secured bond by Magistrate J. Dixon and given a trial date of March 5.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Smith has no prior convictions.
