Lady Spartans rip Rebels in 11-1 win

The lady Spartans knocked out the Rebels in five innings Thursday. The final score was 11-1.

Union head coach Doug Burley said his team played well offensively earning 15 hits, as well as defensively having zero errors.

Of their numerous hits, the Spartans were able to score seven runs during the bottom of the first; two during the second; and one during both the fourth and fifth innings.

North Duplin scored their one run during the top of the fourth.

Leading for Union at the plate was Megan Lee was 3-4, two runs and had three steals; Carrie Lamb had a sacrifice, one RBI and scored a run; Morgan King scored a run; Meagan Usher was 3-3, scored three runs and had two steals; Kayla Zand was 2-2, with 3 RBIs, two runs scored and a sacrifice; Janalee Edge was 3-3 with a run scored; Aubrea Herring was 2-3, had a run and 3 RBIs; and Madeline Worley was 1-3 with 2 RBIs.

Usher was the winning pitcher, spending five innings on the mound, allowing four hits, no walks and had three strike outs.

Lady Rebels trounce Tigers

Reports also came in Thursday regarding the North Duplin and James Kenan action played earlier this week. The Rebels won 7-3; both teams had two errors.

Leading hitters for North Duplin were Tearra Ammons, 2-4, one run, one RBI, and two steals; Alonna Pate, 1-4, one run, one RBI and a steal; Skylar McCarty, 2-3, one run, one RBI and a steal; Ansley Hill, 2-4, one RBI; Raychel Barwick, 1-3, one run and a double; and Kailey Odom 1-3 and a steal.

The winning pitcher was McCarty, pitching all seven innings. She allowed six hits, three runs, two earned, one base on balls and had three strike outs.

The losing pitcher was Taylor Hussey, pitching six innings. She allowed nine hits, seven runs, had four errors, three base on balls, two hit baseman and recorded five strike outs.
