Lady Raiders shut out Patriots
Midway’s softball team had a big night Tuesday against Tri-County foe Pender, said head coach Leigh Ann Smith.
“I am real pleased with our opening conference game. I was really pleased with our showing, and I hope we can keep it going throughout the season,” Smith commented post game.
The lady Raiders recorded 12 hits against the Patriots’ pitcher. Elizabeth McCullen was 2-2 with 2 RBIs; LeAnna Fann was 2-3; Lauren Smith was 3-4 with 1 RBI; and Tiffany Hawley was 2-4.
Smith pitched all seven innings, striking out 11, allowing no walks or runs scored. She only gave up two hits.
Midway baseball beats Pender
Midway’s baseball team currently sports a 3-1 overall record and a 1-0 conference record after taking out Pender 7-2.
The winning pitcher was Riley Baggett. He threw for two and 3/4 innings, struck out six, walked two, allowed no hits, and only one run. Jordan Farthing started, pitching three innings, allowing 1 hit, striking out eight and one run scored. Alex McPhail pitched one and 1/3 inning, struck out none and allowed no hits.
Leading hitters were Anthony Horne, 2-4; Farthing, 1-4, two runs scored; Josh Shaffer, 2-3 with 3 RBIs; Jon Poole, 2-4 with 2 RBIs; and Jordan Boggs with 1 RBI.
