As you may know this is the story of David versus Goliath. David is getting ready to go and fight Goliath, but before he goes he gets his weapons all ready for the fight. I ask you a question this week, Are you ready for war or do you have to get ready? You and I can’t wait until we are on the battle field to start praying; we must be prayed up and work up before we enter the field.
David reached over in a brook and found him five smooth stones to fight with. Have you opened up your Bibles and found you five scriptures to fight with? It’s is possible you may be losing this fight because you have no word in your mouth to speak when Satan attacks.
I was in the hospital earlier in the week when I saw a man on the phone getting encouraging words from a friend about his brother. Next to him was a lady who was reading her Bible getting words for herself and also for him. I thought about this and I don’t want to sound cocky, so don’t think that I said as I watched them to myself, “If you stay ready, you ain’t got to get ready” for when life throws you unexpected things. Oh it is OK to go into prayer while in the hospital and read your Bibles; I am not saying you should not, I am just saying that before I got there, I was ready to fight whatever giants I had to face. I had already chosen out my five scriptures, had them in my heart and they proceeded out of my mouth when I got the news about my family member. I did not panic when the doctor said this or that I just reached down in my spirit and said, God you told me that “You will never leave me nor forsake me,” I need you now.
I could go on and on with this but for the sake of time and space, I must come to a close. Saints prepare yourself before you go into battle against the giants of your life. David was ready, he didn’t have to get ready. So let us learn from him and apply it to our lives for we don’t know what giants are just around the corner of life.
Prayer: Jesus, Help us study your word and set it in our hearts so when giants come we will be ready. In Christ’s name, Amen.
