Leslie Ray McClenny, 48, of 784 Old Branch Mill Road, Roseboro, was charged with four counts of larceny of checks; four counts of forging of instrument; and four counts uttering a forged instrument. McClenny was given a $35,000 bond and a trial date of April 16.
According to investigators, a Roseboro woman reported her checkbook missing from her car after she had parked it at the NAPA Store in Roseboro on Wednesday, March 24.
Within days, the woman’s bank notified her of the checks being written to McClenny. Investigators note that the suspect allegedly stole the checks and then wrote four of them out to himself.
McClenny was arrested the next day without incident.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, McClenny has a history of convictions dating back to 1982. Those convictions include felony breaking and entering, resisting officer, carrying a concealed weapon, misdemeanor breaking and entering, and possession of firearm by a felon (all from December 1982); larceny (October 1983); jail escape (1989); larceny (1989); habitual felon, reckless driving, speeding, driving with license revoked, and speeding to elude arrest (June 1998); possession of drug paraphernalia and larceny of a motor vehicle (1995); larceny, assault on a female (1993); and common law robbery (June 2005).
