KENANSVILLE — Duplin County planner and Census coordinator Randall Tyndall was thrilled to announce the most recent results of Duplin County’s response to the 2010 Census. “Congratulations to Greenevers for their efforts in exceeding the 2000 Census response by 11 percent.” Tyndall is now predicting Duplin County will exceed the response from the last census.

In a release provided on Tuesday, April 6, Tyndall also congratulated Calypso for being the first in the county to exceed the 2000 response rate which is currently at 0.61, up from the 0.58 in 2000. Greenevers was second to go over the previous rate and the town of Warsaw has equaled the 2000 Census response rate.

“I am so excited to see these numbers continue to climb. I want to congratulate all the districts and towns for all the hard work they have done to get the response rate up. They are doing a great job!” said the county planner. According to Tyndall, Duplin County is only 0.02 percentage points from meeting the 2000 Census response rate. “It is a reminder to all complete count members that our goal is to exceed the 2000 Census mail in response rate.”

Tyndall stated that Census forms are still available at the Questionnaire Access Center (QUA) and the BC sites around the county. For information and to track Duplin’s progress in responding to the Census visit www.duplincountync.com and click on the various sites for the latest information. The sites will be manned through April 19. According to Tyndall the enumerators will start knocking on doors around the end of April and continue through the end of June for those who have not sent in their responses. “Let’s get out and tell all about sending in the responses. The efforts of all will benefit all!” said Tyndall.

The Census coordinator expressed his thanks to all those who had already responded and commended everyone’s effort to return them in a timely manner.

The updated response rates are as follows:

2000 2010 as of April 6

Duplin County 0.57 0.55

Beulaville 0.64 0.47

Calypso 0.58 0.61

Tyndall expressed “I am very confident we will exceed our goal of exceeding the 2000 Census response and hopefully we will do so in a big way.”
