A 22-year-old Clinton man, who led officers on a foot chase, was arrested after police found him hiding behind a neighbor’s dog house.
Devante Rashawn Dixon, 22, of 613 Williams St., Clinton, was charged with resisting arrest and being drunk and disruptive, both misdemeanors, after an incident that took place early Wednesday morning.
According to reports from the Clinton Police Department, an officer responded to a disturbance call around 2:38 a.m. Wednesday at the Williams Street residence.
Upon arriving on the scene, the responding officer noticed Dixon walking from the home and was asked to stop walking. Dixon didn’t heed the officer’s request and is alleged to have taken off running on foot, the officer in pursuit of the fleeing suspect.
Reports show that during the chase Dixon jumped two fences and then ran out of sight. The responding officer returned to the home to try and find out what happened. Two females at the home were said to be uncooperative with the investigation.
Two other officers, assisting at the scene, discovered Dixon hiding across the street behind a dog house.
He was immediately taken into custody and charged. Dixon was placed under a $2,000 secured bond and a trial date of May 4 was set.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Dixon has a history of convictions dating back to 2004. Those convictions include breaking and entering vehicles and larceny and possession of stolen goods (all in August 2004); felony breaking and entering (December 2005); and possession with intent to sell a Schedule VI controlled substance (August 2007).
