Katie Mills, Miss Greater Sampson County, accepts a check from Cadet Edwin A. Clarke, Team 3, chairman of the Cadet Advisory Board at Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy. On March 31, the North Carolina Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy Class 34 held a Walk-a-thon involving all teams in the Academy. Each class donates a portion of the money they collect to charitable organizations. On April 16, Class 34 presented a $900 check to Mills for the Highlands Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mills explained to the cadets how much the Red Cross helps in the aftermath of disasters and gave examples of how the money would be used. The cadets were told how much their contribution meant and how it would be appreciated by people in need from natural disasters and other unforeseen events such as house fires.
