Swansboro, a team ranked fifth in the state and defending champions, were out for a win Friday, said CHS head coach Jeff Smith after the Pirates took a 2-1 lead at the half.
“We had a bunch of opportunities, but couldn’t find the net,” said Smith after the loss, which has pushed Clinton to 15-6-1 overall.
Swansboro secured the win with two goals after the break.
“I was pleased with Catherine Coleman for scoring our goal. That gives her 36 goals for the season,” Smith shared.
Topping the conference in goals scored, Coleman received news Wednesday that she will be participating in the East-West game come July.
“That’s quite the honor,” said Smith.
As for the Dark Horses, they will find out Monday where they stand in the state playoffs with their 15-6-1 record.
“That’s that most wins recorded by the girl’s soccer team. We had a very good season; finished third in conference. We’ll have to step it up and take this thing somewhere in the playoffs,” Smith finished.
