A wise man once said, “A man is only as good as the woman standing beside him.” This timeless statement rings true for most of us; but especially for me. Over the years, I’ve written several columns about my mom on this special day, and I continue to thank her for all she has done for me. I am very blessed to have her; she’s truly one of a kind, and anyone that knows her would tell you the same. God knows where I would be in life without her love and guidance throughout the years.
But, there is another “mother” in my life, one who seldom gets the recognition she deserves, one who truly cherishes her job as “mom” and one who always puts her children’s wants, needs and demands in front of her own. That unique woman happens to be my beautiful wife.
My wife has an extremely challenging role as mom to my free-spirited, energetic boys; not to mention putting up with me on a daily basis. My boys would run most people ragged, but somehow, some way, my wife manages to keep everything in order.
She is a spectacular cook, keeps a house that most people would only dream of, makes sure homework is done correctly every evening and even finds the time to cut their hair when needed. She also handles the laundry, bills, school events and all of A.J.’s countless extracurricular activities.
When I am lucky enough to load up the boat and take one of the boys fishing or hunting, my wife is right there to prepare us a bag of snacks, drinks and ice for the cooler. When fishing gets tough and we haven’t caught a thing, I never sweat it as over the years, I expect a call from her at some point to see how we are doing and when that phone rings, without fail, we catch a fish! I know, that might sound a bit far-fetched, but you can ask anybody that’s ever fished with me, every time she calls me I catch a fish — she’s truly my lucky charm.
On top of all her never-ending duties as “mom,” she also teaches and takes great pride in her work. Most nights you can find her working diligently on her lesson plans in between making sure we are all taken care of. What she accomplishes on a daily basis is nothing short of amazing. I’ve learned being a parent is the hardest job on the planet, but being a mom takes parenting to a whole different level. All of three of us are so blessed to have her and we would certainly be lost without her.
So, on this very special day, make sure you take the time to recognize the special mothers in your life, make sure you let them know just how important they are to you and cherish the fact that you are lucky enough to have them looking over you.
As for my family, my boys and I are so very fortunate to have such a wonderful “mom,” one who always puts her children first and always makes sure everything is as close to perfection as possible. In an imperfect world, she strives to provide us with her own brand of “perfection” and it’s nothing short of amazing.
We love you Viviana, Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for all you do…
