The Sampson County Board of Commissioners recognized Midway High School teacher Jennifer Facciolini, center right, Monday on being named N.C. Teacher of the Year. Facciolini has been teaching for 11 years, the last three as a social studies teacher at Midway. She is the first teacher to win the state honor since 1983. After receiving praise from county board chairman Jefferson Strickland, Midway High principal Stuart Daughtery, schools superintendent Dr. Ethan Lenker and members of the county and school boards, Facciolini returned the praise and said it was a great honor. ‘This has been a tremendous honor, but for this honor to happen at home, I am just so proud,’ the Sampson native said. ‘Like Dorothy said, there’s no place like home.’
