Max Ray Austin, 73, of 1857 Pine Ridge Road, Clinton, was charged with assault on a female; communicating threats; and interfering with emergency communications yesterday around 8:32 a.m.
According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Austin was reportedly in a dispute with his spouse when he allegedly pushed her to the floor and began pulling her hair out.
The 73-year-old woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Austin was taken to the Sampson County Magistrate’s Office where magistrate G. Hollingsworth set no bond for him. However, due to Austin’s poor health conditions, he was allowed to make his first court appearance via video conference. He was given a $750 secured bond and was signed out by his daughter.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Austin has no prior convictions.
