From Staff Reports

A domestic violence suspected released on bond earlier this week is in a Chapel Hill hospital today suffering from injuries he sustained in a wreck which happened shortly after he reportedly led officers on a chase away from his spouse’s home.

Kevin Faircloth, 30, of Roseboro, was listed in fair condition at UNC Hospitals Saturday night after being flown there by helicopter late Friday evening, suffering from injuries he sustained when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree on Boren Brick Road.

The incident began Friday night around 7:45 p.m., when the E911 Center received a domestic disturbance call from 2375 Autry Highway, just outside of Roseboro. The caller told the dispatcher that her husband, who had been arrested earlier in the week on charges of assaulting her, was intoxicated and at her residence causing a disturbance.

Sampson County sheriff’s reports show Faircloth, charged earlier in the week with domestic assault on a female and communicating threats, had been released on bond; however a condition of that bond, based on the judge’s order, was to stay away from the victim.

An officer was dispatched to the Autry Highway residence, and when he arrived, Faircloth reportedly jumped in his vehicle and attempted to flee.

The deputy attempted to stop Faircloth, however the suspect sped up in an attempt to escape and a short chase ensued.

Faircloth, reports show, turned onto Boren Brick Road, lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road and struck a tree. He was pinned inside the vehicle and reportedly was suffering from serious injuries.

Deputies used fire extinguishers to control flames until fire and rescue could arrive on the scene to extricate him, and a helicopter from UNC was called to transport the suspect.

A sheriff’s spokesman said the deputy attempted to capture Faircloth for violation of his release order, which will result in additional domestic violence charges, and potential DWI charges. The N.C. Highway Patrol responded to investigate the crash.

All charges are pending medical treatment.
