A Salemburg man, already in the Sampson County Detention Center charged with a string of charges, reportedly attacked two guards Wednesday night after violating one of the rules placed on detainees at the center.

David Christopher Stuart, 23, of 10190 Minnie Hall Road, Salemburg, was charged with assault on an officer and malicious conduct by an inmate, both felonies, in an incident that took place inside the Sampson County Detention Center.

According to reports, Stuart, awaiting trail on possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, second degree trespassing, speeding and driving with his license revoked (on a $10,500 secured bond), was being transported to a “lock down” cell after allegedly violating a detention center rule. The report did not specify what rule was broken.

While being escorted by the two guards, Stuart, reports indicate, became combative with the officers. When they attempted to place him in handcuffs, the suspect allegedly scratched one of the officers and then spit on his face.

Stuart was given the additional felony charges, and another $15,000 was added to his bond. He was also given a trial date of July 9. His bond now stands at $25,500.

According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Stuart has other convictions dating back to 2003. Those include breaking and entering (October 2003); breaking and entering (October 2004); and second degree trespassing (March 2008).
