Midway High summer league scores two wins

Monday night, in the Central Carolina Scholastic Summer Baseball League, Midway High School defeated Clinton, 7-3.

Leading hitters for Midway were Cody Baker, who was 2-5 with one run scored and two stolen bases; Riley Baggett, 1-4; Matthew Phillips, 1-3, with one run scored and one RBI; Matthew Spell, 1-2, with 2 RBIs; Jordan Farthing, 1-3, with 2 runs scored; Taylor Calcutt, 2-4 with one RBI; and Lane Daniels, 2-4 with two RBIs.

The winning pitcher was Baggett, who pitched five innings, striking out nine, allowing three hits, three runs and one earned run. Coming in for the save was Calcutt, pitching two innings, striking out three and allowing one hit.

No scores were called in for Clinton.

In Tuesday night’s action, Midway came out victors in a game against Terry Sanford. They won 5-1 in the Carolina Scholastic Summer League.

The winning pitcher was Matthew Phillips who allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out five players. Leading hitters were Jordan Farthing with one hit, three RBIs and a three-run homer; Matthew Phillips, with two hits and one RBI; and Riley Baggett, Matthew Spell, Brett Godwin and Taylor Calcutt each with one hit.

Midway’s next game will be against Village Christan Acadamy at Midway tonight.
