A high speed chase, at speeds topping 100 mph, ended in a wreck over the July 4th weekend and the arrest of a Garland man now facing a laundry list of charges.

Paul Tresure Sellers, 39, of 370 West 4th St., Garland, was charged with driving while impaired, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer; fleeing to elude arrest; careless and reckless driving; possession of drug paraphernalia; and simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance after his run-in with law enforcement early Saturday morning.

Reports on the incident were not released by Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities until Thursday morning. According to those accounts, deputies attempted to stop Sellers’ 1997 Toyota Camry on Lamb Road, just after midnight Saturday, but instead of pulling over, the suspect repotedly accelerated in an attempt to outrun authorities.

At one point, reports indicate, the suspect’s vehicle ran off the road. He was clocked at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Sellers eventually drove the car back to his home, where he crashed into a ditch. When the car stopped, he reportedly jumped out and took off on foot, only to be chased down and handcuffed by adeputy.

Reports show he fell on top of a small amount of marijuana. Inside of the car, deputies discovered a silver pipe and other drug paraphernalia

The suspect was taken to the Sampson County Magistrate’s Office where he was given a $8,500 bond and a trial date of Aug. 19.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Sellers has a history of convictions dating back to 1995. Those convictions include: violation of drug laws (June 1995); taking indecent liberties with a child (December 1999); failure to register as a sex offender (December 2001); forgery (September 2003); and DWI level 3 and driving with license revoked (both January 2005).
