The Sampson Community College Foundation held its annual meeting on Aug. 5 at the Victor R. Small House to celebrate the success of the 2009-10 year and gear up for the upcoming year.

Retiring directors Ann Turlington, Doug Parsons, Billie Poole, Kenneth Royal, Ronnie Honeycutt and Rebecca Willis were thanked for their dedication and given a gift of appreciation for their honorable service. The Foundation welcomed new directors Dee Bryant, Gary Mac Herring, Alison Bradshaw, Merrie McLamb, and Bill Fulton.

New leaders Bryant, Bradshaw and Fulton are natives of Clinton, while Herring resides in Newton Grove; McLamb is a retired educator from Harrells. They collectively agree that the SCC Foundation is a treasured resource that enriches lives in and around Sampson County. Incoming director Gary Mac Herring says he is eager to serve in this new role. “SCC is a valuable resource for our local citizens, and I’m excited to be a part of this vital organization,” he said.

Steve Stefanovich, who has served as president of the Foundation for the past two years, was recognized for his outstanding leadership and generous support. John Prestage, of Prestage Farms, Stefanovich’s successor, was installed as the new president with Chuck Spell of Schindler Elevator Corporation named as vice president, Doris Gore as secretary and Todd Johnson of Black, Chestnutt & Johnson PA as treasurer. Lisa Turlington, executive director of the SCC Foundation, recognized Stefanovich’s service. “Steve has been a wonderful president for the Foundation who has given freely of his time and energy. He helped make my transition into this new job smooth and fun, and I know that he will continue to work on behalf of the College Foundation. “

Turlington concluded the meeting with a positive reflection on the past year’s successes and an even brighter outlook for future endeavors. “We’re looking forward to a successful year of supporting the students, staff and programs of the College. The Foundation has a rich history of helping educate the people of Sampson County. Many long time directors are still actively involved and will help initiate the new board members.”
