A Sampson County woman received minor injuries after being struck with a screwdriver during an altercation late last week that is believed to have started with threatening text messages to her daughter.

The 46-year-old woman was at her Watery Branch Road residence, located just east of Spivey’s Corner, when she tried to break up a fight that was taking place on her front lawn.

According to officials with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was at home with her 19-year-old daughter and the daughter’s 16-year-old male acquaintance, last Friday around 11:20 p.m.

Reports state that a number of text messages were sent to the daughter’s phone from a female acquaintance during the day. One of the final ones sent told the teen said that night noted that she would be coming over to “beat her up”.

Moments later, reports show, a car, driven by an unidentified black male, and had two female passengers, showed up in front of the home.

The alleged female who was texting the 19-year-old of the home jumped out of the vehicle and began yelling in the yard.

The 16-year-old, who reportedly knew the female from the car, went outside to “calm” the girl down. The 19-year-old female came out and a fight ensued. The second female in the car got out and joined in the fight. The black male also got out of the vehicle and began beating the 16-year-old who was trying to stop the fight.

The mother ran out of the home and ran to stop the fight. At some point, she was hit with the screwdriver and the three got in the car and drove off.

The three suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Law enforcement officials were called in by a neighbor and advised the mother to take out warrants on the three suspects.

As of Tuesday, the warrants had not been filed. If they are the three suspects could be facing serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.
