The Hobbton Lady Wildcat volleyball team split contests with North Duplin on Thursday. North Duplin won the junior varsity match 25-23, 25-23; while the varsity won 3-1.

“It was a good tight contest,” said Hobbton coach Russell Jones about his JV team, “we had chances to win and they had chances to win.”

The Hobbton varsity came up with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Rebels. The scores were 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, and 25-22. “In the first game,” Jones attested, “we got out early 11-4 and maintained a lead.”

The second game was closer and then North Duplin won the third game. Game four was

a “good close game,” according to the coach.

He commended the play of Bethany Knight, “who had a good night a the net with a bunch of kills.” Coach Jones also cited the work of Amery Capps with her serve and setter Taylor Bowden.

The Lady Wildcats don’t play again until Tuesday, after playing three matches in three days. Hobbton’s next game is at home versus Jones Senior.
