“We’ve still got to get better with conference play starting this week,” declared Midway coach Heather Johnson, “
In game one, Clinton led 22-17 before the Lady Raiders began a furious comeback. A service streak by Jennifer Blackmon helped Midway complete the come from behind.
Game two was nip and tuck up until the score was 17-16. Midway then went on a run to take a 23-17 lead. Hits by Farrah Jackson helped pave the way.
However, the Lady Horses were not through playing. The serves of Tiandra Johnson started a Clinton hot streak that cut the score to 23-22.
One serve into the net was all Midway needed, however, to reseize the momentum. The Lady Raiders required only two more serves to notch the victory.
The Lady Raiders are 2-0, while the Lady Dark Horses fall to 0-5.
“I thought we played well as a team,” reflected Clinton coach Jennifer Miller. “We’ve just got to get ahead from the beginning.”
In addition to the outstanding play of Johnson, Miller commended the play of Peyton Mitchell. “Peyton had a nice couple of hits,” stated the coach.
Clinton will host East Duplin Thursday to begin conference play. Midway travels to Wallace-Rose Hill today.
