A 29-year-old Clinton man is behind bars after being charged with the first degree rape of a 12-year-old girl . The incident reportedly took place on June 25.

Donnie Rentell Blue, 29, of 409 Still St., Clinton, was charged with first degree rape and failure to register as a sex offender. Blue was placed under a $200,000 secured bond and given a trial date of Sept. 17.

According to reports from the Clinton Police Department, on June 25 around 6 p.m., Blue allegedly took a 12-year-old acquaintance behind the Springwood Apartments, off of Morisey Boulevard in Clinton, and raped her.

A warrant was issued in July for Blue, however he was not located until Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. at a Eastover Terrace residence in Clinton.

He was arrested without incident.

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office tacked on another $50,000 after Blue was brought in to the Detention Center, charging him with failing to register as a sex offender.

Blue has a previous indecent liberties charge from 2001.

Officials with the sheriff’s office also took out warrants on Blue back in July after he failed to contact them.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the suspect has a history of convictions dating back to 1999. Those convictions include: Out-of-state crime (July 1999); indecent liberties with a child (September 2001); selling a scheduled II controlled substance (October 2002); and failure to register as a sex offender (March 2003).
