A strong third quarter showing gave Midway’s JV Raiders the edge over a much-improved South Johnston team Thursday night and, eventually, the 66-47 win.
Coach Matthew Creech said he was well pleased with the game. “It was a quality win against a quality team.”
The game started off pretty even, with Midway up by only 3 points, 16-13, by the end of the first quarter. The Raiders added some points in the paint and on the boards in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead — 35-25 — into the half.
“Our best effort was in the third quarter,” Creech stressed. “We went on a 14-0 run, and that pretty much sealed the game for us. I was well pleased with the play we got from our freshmen tonight. They stepped up big for us.”
JV Raider Paris Smith led scoring with 28 points. Ayden Cannady and J.D. Lockamy added 7 points each; Cameron Hobbs had 6; Tyler Mayes, 5; Larry Blanks, 5; Jamarrious Baggett, 4; Jackson Carr, 2; and Shayheim Small, 2.
Midway returns to the court Monday in a home game against Rosewood. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
