Two teams from the Sampson County Soccer Club recently participated in the UNC Pembroke Sala de Futbol Tournament. This is a fast paced indoor soccer tournament played in an indoor stadium with a futsal soccer ball. Futsal soccer balls are weighted so it doesn’t bounce as much. There is no out of bounds on the sideline as the walls are in play as the ball ricochets off play continues.

The Clinton United under 14 girls team won with Sarah Sarp and Olivia Sessoms netting the game winners against the Fayetteville Force Soccer girl’s team. Alaina Capps (normally a midfielder/striker) had to play goalie for the tournament due to the team’s regular keeper Edye Jane Carr had fallen ill the morning of the games. Alaina stepped to allow the fewest goals of in the girl’s bracket. Lauryn Worley, Halla Gilpin, and Blake Daniel all contributed goals during the tournament as did Alaina.

In the under 18 boys division, Colin Faulkner repeated Alaina’s feat allowing the fewest goals among the men’s bracket. His teammates were all prolific at scoring or assisting in scoring throughout the tournament including Weston Locklear, Jose Andrade, Will Reagan, Jose Aguilar, and Dalton King.
