It wasn’t an easy battle, but a winnable one as the Harrells Christian Crusaders pulled out a 40-38 win over rival Coastal Christian earlier in the week.
The win moves the Crusaders to 2-0 in the early part of the basketball season.
Harrells opened up strong, scoring 13 points in the first quarter, ahead of their opponents by 5, at 13-8, heading into the second frame. Coastal added 8 more in the second quarter and Harrells scored 8, with the teams heading into the half with the Crusaders in the lead 21-16.
Coastal opened the third quarter strong, dropping in several buckets and racking up 13 points, only 2 less than the Crusaders with 15.
Coastal roared back in the fourth, scoring 9 points and holding Harrrells to only 4 points, but it was too little too late and the Crusaders came out ahead.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was Graham DePinto who scored 14 on the night. Chris Cannady added 10 points; Zack Carlton, 7; Josh Driskill, 3; Zach Batts, 2; Patrick Walker, 2; and Hayden Parks, 2.
The win moves Harrells to 2-2 overall. Their next game will come during the Wilmington Christian Tournament being held Dec. 28-28.
